TRANSFER TODAY✅✅: “Todd Boehly comments that, similar to Kepa’s situation, Chelsea is facing a significant loss as the attacker they signed for £100M now has a market value of only £1M.”
Chelsea have been informed they would be fortunate to receive any money for Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk if they choose to sell him this summer.
Initially involved in a transfer battle between Chelsea and Arsenal, the Blues secured Mudryk’s signature for an initial £62 million, with an additional £27 million in add-ons, in January 2023. The substantial fee paid under Todd Boehly reflected the talent Mudryk had demonstrated with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
However, having scored only seven goals in west London, former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf believes Mudryk’s value has plummeted to nearly zero. Leboeuf thinks Chelsea would be lucky to recoup £1 million if they attempted to sell him.
It has been reported that current Blues defender Marc Cucurella is trying to persuade winger and Spain teammate Nico Williams, one of Euro 2024’s standout players, to join the club this summer. With Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and Raheem Sterling all in Enzo Maresca’s squad, being linked with Williams suggests Chelsea may consider replacing one of their current wingers.
Leboeuf believes Mudryk might be the one needing replacement, as his tenure at Stamford Bridge has been disastrous, and recouping any money for the winger would be considered a win.
Speaking to BoyleSports, which offers the latest Euro 2024 Betting, Leboeuf said: “Mudryk has no value anymore – he’s a lost cause, and Chelsea won’t make any money on him. Mudryk is so raw, and he’s not improving under various managers.
“Who would want to buy Mudryk? I wouldn’t even buy him for £10 million right now. In fact, I wouldn’t buy him for £1 million. Why spend money on a player who is not productive?
“He’s been here 18 months, and although his circumstances in Ukraine have been difficult, from what I’ve seen, I worry Chelsea have signed a dud in Mudryk, and they must replace him. I was bought for £2 million in 1996, which I thought was a lot! Mudryk was bought for £70 million or something – it’s insane!”
An issue Chelsea faces if they try to move Mudryk is his contract. The Ukrainian is contracted to Chelsea until 2031, earning a reported £97,000 a week.
Tom Bason, a football finance expert at the University of Coventry, explained the financial issues Chelsea faces and how the long contracts they offer might land them in financial trouble. He stated: “Where Chelsea may be falling foul is that because of their long contracts, relatively little value drops off each year.
“So for someone like Mudryk, if he cost £80 million on an eight-year contract, he loses £10 million a year. Call it 18 months since the transfer, he’d now be valued at £65 million in the accounts.
“For Chelsea to make any profit from selling him, they would need to sell him for more than £65 million. That’s an issue Chelsea has with such long contracts; if a player does not work out, they amortize less each year and retain a higher value in the books.”
Mudryk is undoubtedly out of favor at Chelsea. Despite the temptation to offload and replace him, it seems that few clubs would show interest, considering his price tag and substantial contract.
