The Premier League has a plan in place for Arsenal in case they manage a last-minute title win on the final day of the season.
Arsenal enter the final day of the season with a chance to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004. The Gunners have had an exceptional campaign, achieving a record number of goals and wins in their Premier League history.
“Somebody told me it’s 27 wins in the Premier League,” said Mikel Arteta after last Sunday’s victory over Manchester United ensured the title race would go to the final day. “That’s not progress, that’s history. That’s very difficult to do, especially in the league where we are playing now. Big compliment to all the players and staff for what they’ve done.”
However, Arsenal faces the formidable challenge of competing against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side aims to become the first team in English football to win four consecutive league titles and is on its longest unbeaten run since December 6th.
City are the favorites after surpassing Arsenal with a midweek win over Tottenham Hotspur. If City defeats West Ham, they will secure the championship. Arsenal must win their final game against Everton and hope for a City slip-up.
Should the improbable happen, a victory celebration is planned. This would be the first league title at the Emirates Stadium since it opened in 2006. There are two Premier League trophies: one kept by the reigning champions and one used by the Premier League for events. One trophy will be at the Etihad Stadium, and the other at the Emirates, along with identical podiums and pyrotechnics for the celebrations. The trophy will be engraved after the winners lift it.
