Martin Zubimendi issues a fresh transfer signal to Arsenal as Edu targets a £51m agreement.
Midfielder Martin Zubimendi, linked with a move to Arsenal, has stated that he is currently focused on the European Championships and not his future transfers.
The 25-year-old has garnered attention with his performances for Real Sociedad in recent seasons, earning him a spot in Spain’s squad for the summer tournament. Reports from football.london last year indicated Arsenal’s interest in the player ahead of the 2024 transfer window.
Recent reports suggest that Arsenal remains ‘very interested’ in Zubimendi during this transfer window, with manager Mikel Arteta being a notable admirer. Zubimendi’s contract includes a €60m (£50.7m) release clause. Arteta will have the opportunity to observe him closely when Spain faces Italy in their second tournament game on Thursday.
Before the match, Zubimendi was asked if the tournament was a chance to impress potential suitors. He responded, “My main focus is on benefiting the national team, not on what I can achieve personally in this European Championship. All my energy is dedicated to the group and winning the tournament. Any individual success will follow naturally. I’m not thinking about this now.”
In Spain’s opening game against Croatia on Saturday, Zubimendi was a late substitute. He acknowledges that he is currently behind Manchester City’s Rodri in the team hierarchy and understands the need for patience.
“I am aware of my position, my background, and the players ahead of me,” he said. “What I can control is my preparation and ensuring I’m at 100 percent when given the opportunity. I have accepted my role well. Rodri is the best in the world in his position.
“A European Championship is not about individual focus. I need to contribute fully from my position and perform to the best of my ability when called upon.”
