LATEST NEWS: Chelsea have a £33m Reece James transfer option that could catch Manchester United and Tottenham off guard.
Chelsea are reportedly interested in Monaco right-back Vanderson.
The 23-year-old, who had been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer, has caught the attention of Chelsea, despite earlier reports being inaccurate. Vanderson has performed well for Monaco in recent seasons, earning two caps for Brazil.
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are showing significant interest in the Brazilian, with Monaco reportedly demanding up to €40 million (around £33 million) for his transfer. Manchester United is also said to be interested in Vanderson.
Chelsea’s interest in Vanderson is logical given Reece James’ ongoing injury issues. Although Mario Gusto has stepped in effectively, he is also currently injured, leaving Chelsea short at right-back.
Vanderson is under contract with Monaco until 2028, making him a potentially costly acquisition. Chelsea, having spent heavily in recent windows, must be cautious of their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to avoid breaching Premier League financial regulations and risking a points deduction.
Monaco, however, is known for selling its star players, as seen with Youssouf Fofana’s move to AC Milan last summer, and past departures like Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez.
Chelsea’s PSR concerns might affect their ability to compete with Manchester United or Tottenham in a bidding war. United have bolstered their right-back position with Noussair Mazraoui, adding competition for Diogo Dalot.
Tottenham, on the other hand, may be in greater need of a right-back following Emerson Royal’s departure and concerns about Djed Spence’s ability to challenge Pedro Porro. If Chelsea can secure a top-four finish, the prospect of Champions League football could make Stamford Bridge a more attractive destination for Vanderson.
