LATEST NEWS: Anthony Taylor sets Premier League history during the Chelsea vs. Bournemouth match, but fans are far from pleased.
Enzo Maresca earned his second Premier League win as Chelsea manager with a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The decisive moment came from a late goal by substitute Christopher Nkunku, who was set up by Jadon Sancho, making his debut for the club.
However, despite the win, Chelsea fans were left frustrated with referee Anthony Taylor, whose officiating set a new Premier League record. Taylor handed out 14 yellow cards during the match, breaking the previous record for the most yellow cards in a single Premier League game. That record had originally been set in August 2010 in a match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United, and was later equaled by Chelsea’s infamous 2016 clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Fans expressed their displeasure on social media. One Chelsea supporter commented on X: “Anthony Taylor can never be forgiven for his crimes against Chelsea football club.” Another added: “Historic number of yellows for a game that had very little aggression. Anthony Taylor seemed determined to set a record.” A third fan humorously said: “I just heard Anthony Taylor booked the tea lady after the game for asking how many sugars he wanted. Taylor doesn’t eat sugar after 9pm.”
