OFFICIAL DONE DEAL✅✅: “I can’t believe we’re getting both players for only £100m,” Mikel Arteta exclaimed, amazed that Arsenal’s double bid of £45m and £55m was accepted.
Arsenal is poised to ramp up their summer transfer activity in the coming days, with the transfer window opening on Friday, June 14. However, the completion of any early deals seems unlikely, as the opening coincides with the start of the European championships.
The Copa America starts the following week, with several players of interest to Arsenal participating for their national teams throughout June and July. These two tournaments could also affect potential departures, although many of those likely to leave are not participating in Germany or the USA.
Targets like Benjamin Sesko, Joshua Kimmich, Douglas Luiz, and Martin Zubimendi will be busy in the upcoming weeks, likely delaying any transfer dealings. Despite this, significant updates continue to emerge, with Arsenal receiving a double boost thanks to two other clubs.
Luiz transfer boost
Arsenal remains interested in Douglas Luiz, and Aston Villa’s challenging financial situation could work to the Gunners’ advantage.
The Brazilian international was the subject of three bids from Emirates Stadium two years ago, but Villa stood firm and later secured Luiz with a new contract. His value has since increased significantly, and Villa may be forced to sell before June 30, according to Brazilian journalist Rudy Galetti.
football.london states: “Aware of Villa’s predicament, Arsenal might prioritize this deal. Luiz, 26, has had another excellent season at Villa Park, which could reignite and strengthen Arsenal’s long-standing interest.
“As a replacement option for Thomas Partey, Luiz is among the best, with a midfield trio of him, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard being a tantalizing prospect. While Villa would prefer not to lose Luiz, they might have to sell some prized assets, potentially including Luiz.”
Palhinha to Bayern domino effect
Joao Palhinha’s move to Bayern Munich seems set to be the first major transfer of the summer window. Bayern almost signed the Fulham midfielder 12 months ago, but the deal fell through at the last minute. This time, it appears more likely to succeed.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Palhinha has agreed to personal terms with Bayern, and negotiations are ongoing to reach a final agreement. An initial €35 million (£29.8m) offer was rejected, but a new offer around €45 million (£38m) is expected soon.
football.london notes: “While Palhinha has been loosely linked to Arsenal, his move could significantly impact Arteta and Edu.
“Bayern has long needed a true holding midfielder, and Palhinha’s arrival might be preparation for a Joshua Kimmich exit.
“Kimmich’s current contract expires in 2025, so if an extension isn’t reached, Bayern might need to sell him soon.
“Kimmich’s performances in Bayern’s two Champions League games against Arsenal showed he would enhance Arsenal’s midfield options and add depth at right-back. Barcelona’s decision not to pursue Kimmich could give Arsenal a clear path to sign him if he leaves Bayern.”
