Enzo Maresca’s backroom staff is expected to feature a former Chelsea player and a coach from a Premier League club.
Chelsea fans have ample reason to be excited about the talent that Enzo Maresca could bring to the club next season.
Maresca himself might not be the only valuable new addition. According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are close to securing a long-term deal to appoint the Italian as their new manager.
After just one season at Leicester City, where he led them to the Championship title, Maresca is poised to take on a new role in West London.
He is expected to bring a formidable team with him, consisting of trusted backroom staff who contributed to Leicester’s success.
One familiar name for Blues fans is Willy Caballero, the former Chelsea goalkeeper who was part of their 2021 Champions League-winning squad. Caballero, who made 38 appearances for Chelsea and was also part of their 2018 FA Cup and 2019 Europa League triumphs, is set to return as Maresca’s assistant manager.
Also joining Maresca’s team is Walker, previously part of Manchester City’s academy, who managed Peterborough United Under-21s before joining Maresca’s staff at Leicester. Walker’s extensive experience could be crucial in supporting Maresca’s efforts to elevate Chelsea.
Other expected additions to the backroom staff include fitness coach Marcos Alvarez, goalkeeping coach Michele de Bernardin, and analyst Javier Molina Caballero. Additionally, former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ben Roberts is set to continue his coaching role at Chelsea, where he has been for two years.
Current Chelsea set-piece coach Bernardo Cueva is also likely to remain with the club, joining Maresca’s team. The Blues are expected to make a final bid for Leicester development coach Roberto Vitiello once all other business is concluded.
With such a strong backroom staff, Chelsea appears well-prepared for the upcoming season, as Maresca embarks on his most challenging managerial task yet.
