Edu’s involvement in finalizing a £34m Arsenal transfer has been disclosed as the chase for a striker intensifies.
Agent Kia Joorabchian’s strong relationship with Arsenal’s sporting director Edu could be crucial for the club’s bid to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, helping them fend off competition. Mikel Arteta is eager to strengthen his squad after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title, with Arsenal set to compete in the Champions League next season.
Last summer, Arsenal invested over £200 million in players like Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber, balancing the expenditure with significant sales. Zirkzee, who impressed in Serie A last season, has been linked with a move to the Emirates, as well as to Manchester United, Inter, and AC Milan.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Joorabchian’s frequent dealings with Edu could favor Arsenal in securing Zirkzee, with momentum building in their pursuit. A four-year contract with a significant wage increase is reportedly offered to Zirkzee, though Bologna is firm on his £34 million release clause.
Zirkzee, speaking to Corriere di Bologna, expressed his current focus on Bologna and his desire to recover from injury and enjoy a holiday before deciding his future. He emphasized that he would make a decision that felt right in his heart and reflected on the joy of potentially playing in the Champions League next season, an experience he relishes after previously winning it with Bayern Munich without significant playing time.
