DONE DEAL✅✅: “Enzo Maresca and Todd Boehly Disagree Over New Signing: Boehly Finalizes £45m Deal Despite Maresca’s Objections”
Chelsea have agreed a fee for their seventh signing of the summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Filip Jorgensen will be their new goalkeeper if everything proceeds as planned, despite not being their first-choice target.
Romano confirmed that Chelsea has reached an agreement with Villarreal to sign the Danish international for a fee of €24.5m (£20.7m). Jorgensen will sign a long-term contract with Stamford Bridge.
In May, TEAMtalk revealed that new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca was dissatisfied with the goalkeeping options he was inheriting, and Jorgensen was on their shortlist for potential upgrades.
Interest in Jorgensen has developed over the past few weeks, leading to Chelsea’s recent move. Jorgensen’s arrival is now nearing completion.
Reports from yesterday indicated that Jorgensen was likely to sign for Chelsea this weekend, which is indeed happening.
Romano, who previously claimed Maresca was satisfied with Robert Sanchez despite contrary reports, has used his ‘here we go’ catchphrase to confirm Jorgensen’s move to Chelsea.
The 22-year-old will be Chelsea’s seventh signing this summer, following Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Caleb Wiley.
Chelsea has also completed a deal for Boca Juniors centre-back Aaron Anselmino, who will remain on loan in Argentina for the rest of the calendar year.
Under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, Chelsea’s spending this summer continues to be high as they support their new head coach.
Jorgensen will be the fourth goalkeeper Chelsea has signed under the current regime, joining Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, and Gabriel Slonina.
Was Jorgensen plan B for Chelsea?
It has been suggested that Jorgensen may not have been Maresca’s preferred choice. Reports from Bold claim that Maresca initially favored another Danish goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, who helped Maresca’s Leicester City win promotion to the Premier League last season.
Bold states that signing Hermansen would have cost Chelsea £40m, roughly double what they are paying for Jorgensen.
Chelsea hopes Jorgensen will be the better option after struggling to find a reliable no.1 goalkeeper in recent seasons.
According to the report, Maresca wanted Hermansen to join him, similar to midfielder Dewsbury-Hall, but Leicester’s asking price was too high.
Jorgensen made more saves than any other goalkeeper in LaLiga last season, totaling 143 stops and keeping six clean sheets.
Now, Jorgensen just needs to complete the formalities of his Chelsea move, such as passing a medical.
