Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has addressed the speculation about his future amid reports suggesting he is unhappy with his role at the Etihad.
Alvarez is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most talented forwards, but his starting position under Pep Guardiola is not guaranteed. Although the Argentine played in most league matches last season, he only completed the full 90 minutes in 15 of them.
It is well known that Alvarez is second to Erling Haaland in the lineup and has often been played out of position, either on the wing or as a number 10. There have been rumors of his frustration with this role, and several clubs have shown interest in him recently.
Despite the challenges, the 24-year-old wishes to remain at Manchester City and play regularly, though he understands this will not be easy. Atletico Madrid and PSG have inquired about Alvarez, and Chelsea is reportedly preparing to make an offer soon.
Addressing the rumors linking him to Chelsea, Alvarez stated his contentment at City. “These are things that are said, but I am calm, I am comfortable and happy at City. We will see what happens,” he told ESPN.
Alvarez is under contract at the Etihad until 2028, and according to Fabrizio Romano, it would take a substantial offer for City to consider selling him. “If Man City do allow Julian Alvarez to leave, it would be for big money, as Man City have no intention to sell or loan. It will only happen if the player requests to go and City receives a lot of money,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel. He added that there is currently no concrete bid or direct contact from any Premier League clubs, though this could change soon.
While Manchester City is not planning to sell Alvarez, the same cannot be said for Joao Cancelo, who is likely to leave the club this summer. Cancelo is keen to return to Barcelona, where he spent last season on loan, and Guardiola has admitted that a deal could happen under the right circumstances.
Another City player facing an uncertain future is Bernardo Silva. Although Guardiola is eager to keep him, Silva’s £50 million release clause is a significant factor that cannot be ignored.
