The Aston Villa star has responded to Cole Palmer’s message about a possible club switch, revealing his potential future club.
He told Chelsea’s Cole Palmer during national duty that his family, including his uncle, are all Arsenal fans. He hinted that if they agree for him to join Chelsea, he would not hesitate.
The 28-year-old also mentioned that his family was upset when he scored two goals against Arsenal last season. He suggested that any decision to join Chelsea would need his family’s approval. Otherwise, he is likely to head to North London.
According to Football London, Watkins made his new dream club admission.
“I’m not sure my granddad or uncle Baz are going to be too happy,” Watkins told Sky Sports after a 3-0 win for Villa over Arsenal back in 2020. “They are Arsenal fans, and I am an Arsenal fan myself, but I’m buzzing. I am sure they will really love it. I am over the moon.”
The striker has never hidden his affection for the Gunners, confessing in 2020 that his dream is to play for the club. Speaking at the 2020 London Football Awards, the then-Brentford star revealed: “That’s the dream—to play for Arsenal one day. But, you know, it’s a long shot.”
If Chelsea are willing to bid for the player, it could attract more offers, as he signed a 5-year contract last season, set to expire around 2028.
Upon signing his new contract, he told his club’s website, “I’m really happy. I feel like this is the best place for me to play football; I’ve still got a lot to achieve here.
“I feel like I’ve had a really good connection with the fans since I’ve come here. From day one, they’ve been really good with me; we’ve had highs and lows, but that’s football. You can see the direction of the club, and I want to be a part of that.”
Chelsea would warmly welcome such a significant addition if he decides to move to West London, as the transfer seems likely to be confirmed in due course.
