BREAKING NEWS: Chelsea is set to compete with Tottenham in a £30 million pursuit of a highly-regarded French winger.
Chelsea to rival Tottenham in a £30 million transfer hunt for a highly-rated French winger.
Chelsea have joined the race to sign a French star, competing against Tottenham, who have been monitoring the player since earlier this summer.
Reports indicate that the 19-year-old has garnered interest from European giants Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Tottenham.
Rennes wonderkid Désiré Doué has hinted at a potential move this summer, and one of these top clubs could be his next destination.
With Bayern Munich’s £30 million bid already rejected, Chelsea might need to submit higher offers to secure the transfer.
Doué rapidly advanced through Rennes’ youth ranks and began training with the senior squad in January 2022.
He eventually established himself in the first team as a left winger, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 31 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.
This acquisition could be ideal for new Blues boss Enzo Maresca, who has been active in the summer transfer window as he aims to revamp his squad for the upcoming season.
Désiré can also play multiple roles, ranging from midfield to forward, potentially serving as an additional option at center forward.
However, Rennes has set a £52 million release clause for Désiré, and if Chelsea are to secure the deal, they must outbid both Bayern and Paris before ensuring the player’s arrival in West London.
Offering less than that might result in Chelsea missing out, as Rennes made it clear after rejecting Bayern Munich’s £30 million bid that even £35 million wouldn’t suffice, which the Blues could easily surpass.
Although Chelsea has made some significant recent signings, including the confirmed arrival of defensive midfielder Renato Veiga from FC Basel for around £12 million, Enzo Maresca still shows interest in pursuing further deals, particularly for Désiré.
Nico Williams and Dani Olmo are also potential targets for Chelsea after the Euros, as they have been performing well at Euro 2024 and have been tipped for transfers to West London, although no offers have yet been made for either player.
There are still many options in the market, and Enzo Maresca seems determined to secure more deals, likely targeting Désiré before the European giants can hijack the transfer.
