Breaking News: Chelsea has finally issued a statement regarding the Victor Osimhen deal.
Chelsea Finally Released Statement Over Victor Osimhen’s Deal
Chelsea has been keen on finding a more clinical finisher under Enzo Maresca to maintain their frontline prowess for the next season. Victor Osimhen has emerged as their top target following this search.
The Italian manager has already received significant backing in terms of signings over the past few weeks, with Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Renato Veiga being the first five arrivals under his tenure. However, Chelsea is in desperate need of prioritizing one area they haven’t truly addressed yet: a true center forward.
Enzo Maresca noted that while Nicolas Jackson has created many chances, he has missed nearly all of them. The manager emphasized the need for a player who can convert these chances and is considering other options to tackle this issue.
The Blues have identified Victor Osimhen as their primary target, making it clear that he could rival Nicolas Jackson in converting most of their chances next season.
Although no deals have been finalized, Chelsea has made it known they are pursuing the deal, especially since Napoli has agreed to consider offers for Romelu Lukaku. Napoli is willing to let go of Osimhen if Chelsea includes a player-plus-cash deal, meaning Lukaku would be part of the exchange.
Reports indicate that Osimhen’s numbers have consistently improved throughout his career, first at Wolfsburg, then Lille, and now Napoli. Last season’s 17-goal tally was his lowest since moving to Serie A four years ago, mainly due to a hamstring injury that saw him miss several games. His 2022/23 tally of 31 goals across 39 matches in all competitions, which helped secure Napoli’s first Scudetto in over 30 years, put him on Chelsea’s radar. Now, there seems to be renewed hope of him appearing in the Premier League next season.
Securing Osimhen’s signature at Stamford Bridge would be significant for Enzo Maresca. Apart from adding depth, Osimhen would undoubtedly be the option to displace Jackson.
Although Arsenal, Manchester United, and Saudi Arabian clubs are also interested in signing Osimhen, Chelsea has emerged as the frontrunner, closely monitoring the player.
Osimhen’s more clinical finishing compared to Jackson would make him a better fit for Chelsea’s squad next season.
