Frank Leboeuf has shared his views on Chelsea’s recent transfer strategy and the club’s relationship with Strasbourg, a Ligue 1 team.
Both Chelsea and Strasbourg are owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s BlueCo company, making them sister clubs. Last season, Chelsea leveraged this connection by sending Angelo Gabriel and Andrey Santos to Strasbourg, allowing these players to gain experience in a top European league. While this relationship has its advantages, Leboeuf, who has played for both teams, has expressed concerns.
Leboeuf is critical of the multi-club model and BlueCo’s approach to managing both Chelsea and Strasbourg. He believes that Boehly and his associates might inadvertently harm Chelsea. In an interview with Get French Football News, Leboeuf stated: “You can invest money—no problem—but you shouldn’t make decisions without understanding the region and how things work. Fans are skeptical and disappointed because they aren’t seeing any progress.
“There’s a sense that Chelsea are offloading their problems onto Strasbourg—no experienced players, just young ones, focused on future gains rather than present needs. This approach worries me because it may not work for either Strasbourg or Chelsea.
