Benjamin Sesko has made a major decision regarding potential transfers to Arsenal and Chelsea, delivering a significant surprise.
Benjamin Sesko will not be transferring to Arsenal or Chelsea this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Slovenian striker has decided to stay at RB Leipzig after agreeing to a new contract.
The 21-year-old was a top target for both London clubs, as they looked to strengthen their attacking options. Manchester United also showed interest.
Following a strong end to the season, where Sesko scored seven goals in his last seven Bundesliga games, his release clause reportedly increased from £43 million to £55 million. Despite this, the interested clubs were still keen to sign him, leading to increased competition to bring him to the Premier League.
However, despite earlier reports this summer suggesting that Sesko might decline a substantial offer from Leipzig, it is now confirmed that he will remain in Germany. Romano reports that Sesko now has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Leipzig regarding a future exit.
This implies that Sesko could potentially move in just 12 months, which is a setback for Arsenal and Chelsea as they sought to enhance their forward lines.
Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, had attended games involving Chelsea, Arsenal, and United in the final months of the last season. Sesko will now be showcasing his talent at Euro 2024, where he will face England in Group C.
Attention could now shift to other high-profile strikers this summer, including Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen, and Alexander Isak. Chelsea has also been linked with Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.
