An Arsenal star has revealed that the club informed him “the best thing for me was to leave.”
Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has confirmed he is likely to leave the Gunners this summer. The Belgium international joined the north London club in the summer of 2021 from Anderlecht with high expectations. However, Lokonga only showed flashes of potential in his first season and struggled to gain Mikel Arteta’s trust.
The 24-year-old had a challenging loan period at Crystal Palace last season but enjoyed a reputation-enhancing spell at Luton during the current campaign. Despite being limited to just 19 appearances due to injuries, Lokonga impressed enough to earn praise from former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Despite these commendations and Arsenal’s need for midfield reinforcements, Lokonga is expected to leave the Emirates once the summer transfer window opens. Speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio, he said, “The love I have received has been amazing, it’s been unbelievable and I’ve never seen this kind of support.”
