Michael Owen advocates for dropping Bukayo Saka from the England team.
“I had him in my squad a few months ago, but now he’s one of the Premier League’s best players. He might even contend for Player of the Year or the Golden Boot, and that’s remarkable given his team’s struggles.
“So, he’s a must in my mind. I’d play him on the right, alongside Foden, one on the right and one in the center. Then, I’d have Rice as the lone defensive midfielder, with Bellingham and Foden as more attacking midfielders. And Cole on the right.
“But during the game, I’d switch them around to keep it fluid. Have your left-sided player as the pacy outlet, with Harry Kane obviously up front.
“I doubt Gareth Southgate will go with this approach; he’ll likely opt for two defensive midfielders, which I disagree with.
“If he does, it’s probably Kobbie Mainoo with Declan Rice. Then, you’d have to leave out Palmer or Foden, or both, if Saka plays instead.
“But it’s hard to imagine not having Foden and Palmer in your team; they’re among our top three or four players.”
