Emmanuel Petit has urged Marcus Rashford to sign for Arsenal “immediately.” The former Arsenal star, who achieved a league and cup double in the 1997/98 season, is encouraging Mikel Arteta to acquire Manchester United’s struggling forward this summer. Petit believes Rashford is “miserable” after a disappointing, low-scoring season marred by scrutiny of his performances and off-field behavior.
Despite being United’s standout player in the 2022/23 campaign, Rashford’s poor form has fueled rumors of a possible transfer. At 26, Petit feels Rashford’s best years are ahead, and a move to Arsenal could help him revive his career. Petit compares Rashford’s situation to Kai Havertz’s tough spell at Chelsea before his resurgence at Arsenal, where he has scored 13 league goals this season.
Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, Petit stated: “While it’s hard to predict if Arteta could do the same for Rashford as he did for Havertz, there’s no doubt Rashford needs a fresh start, and Arsenal could be ideal. Rashford’s talent has been evident at Man United, similar to how Havertz was questioned at Chelsea.
“Would Rashford thrive at Arsenal? Absolutely—I’d sign him right now! Rashford, in a positive environment, would be fantastic for the Gunners. Given the struggles at United, including a recent altercation with a fan, Rashford would be welcomed at Arsenal with open arms.
Petit continued, “Havertz found happiness at Arsenal after a challenging period at Chelsea. I want the same transformation for Rashford.”
Rashford’s recent clash with a United fan before their match against Newcastle highlighted his frustration. Arsenal, looking to add pace and cover for Bukayo Saka, could benefit from Rashford’s ability to beat defenders and score goals. Rashford achieved a personal best of 17 league goals in the 2022/23 season and 30 in all competitions, making him a valuable asset for Arsenal’s title ambitions next season.
