LATEST NEWS: Chelsea fans! Romeo Lavia TEASES a MAJOR UPDATE on His Injury Comeback

Romeo Lavia shares Chelsea injury update, hinting at possible return under Enzo Maresca

Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia has offered a glimpse of his recovery progress from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for the last month. The Belgian midfielder, who transferred from Southampton to Chelsea for £53 million in 2023, has faced an injury-plagued first season at Stamford Bridge, with those issues carrying over into the 2024/25 season.

Despite completing a full pre-season and even starting in Chelsea’s opening Premier League match against Manchester City, Lavia picked up a new injury in late August. Initially, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca played down the seriousness of the situation, describing it as “nothing major” and suggesting that Lavia might be fit for the match against Bournemouth.

However, despite Maresca’s positive outlook and Chelsea’s shortage of experienced midfielders, Lavia did not make the squad for the Bournemouth fixture. Nevertheless, Chelsea secured a win, with Christopher Nkunku netting the decisive goal, while Renato Veiga stepped in to cover the midfield in Lavia’s absence.

Expectations were that Lavia would be named at least on the bench for the West Ham game, but he was once again absent. Even so, Chelsea earned another away victory, with Moises Caicedo delivering an impressive performance in midfield.

After the Bournemouth match, Enzo Fernandez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made their returns, and Lavia may soon rejoin the squad, further strengthening Maresca’s midfield options. Lavia recently posted an update on Instagram, featuring a training photo accompanied by a countdown emoji, indicating his recovery is progressing well.

Lavia may be in the running for the Carabao Cup match against Barrow on September 24th. Although he is unlikely to start, his inclusion in the squad will depend on his fitness level.

Meanwhile, Chelsea continues to manage other injury concerns, with Malo Gusto and Reece James still sidelined. Wesley Fofana has been filling in at right-back. James, who has yet to make an appearance this season, is working towards a return, though the timeline for his comeback remains unclear. Maresca has emphasized the importance of James only returning when he is fully fit, maintaining a cautious approach to his rehabilitation.
