“I will make the decision myself.” Chelsea’s target has finally revealed his dream club, despite interest from PSG.
Chelsea have been pursuing Victor Osimhen’s transfer since last summer, as Napoli extended his contract for another three years, set to expire after the next season.
Initially, Enzo Maresca aimed to secure a new number nine, and if the Nico Williams transfer doesn’t materialize, he will undoubtedly focus on acquiring the Napoli star.
Chelsea included Romelu Lukaku in the deal to offset the asking price and secure Osimhen’s signature, but they face significant competition, as Fabrizio Romano announced multiple contenders.
Victor Osimhen spoke about his transfer decision while on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria in January. He told CBS Sports: “At the end of the season, I think I already made up my mind.
“I already know what I want to do with my career; since I’ve started, I’ve been the one making my own decisions, and everything is working out well for me. Even though it didn’t start as planned, I have my plan. I know the next step I want to take. For now, I just want to finish the season strong, relax with my daughter, and finalize my decision.”
Napoli boss Antonio Conte’s comments earlier in the summer also suggest the club expects Osimhen to move on. “I know what the situation is regarding Osimhen,” he said.
“I know there are agreements, and this situation is different from all the others. I can only assist. He is a player of the highest level, exceptional, but I cannot enter into any discussion because it is part of previous agreements clearly stated to me.”
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, PSG is currently linked with Osimhen and might hijack the deal if Chelsea doesn’t make a bid.
Napoli will likely value Victor Osimhen at a transfer fee worth £110 million, and Napoli’s manager plans to make a deal with Chelsea to secure the signing before it’s too late.
Napoli requested Lukaku, and Chelsea were willing to include him in the deal, as they saw him as a backup option rather than a fit for the current squad.
However, it’s up to Chelsea to make their offer soon to avoid rivals hijacking the deal.
