Arsenal Shift Focus from Victor Osimhen to Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal has reportedly redirected their attention from Victor Osimhen to Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners are seeking to bolster their squad with a top-class center-forward this summer as they aim to contend for the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season.

Although Arsenal was linked with a move for Osimhen, Napoli’s €130 million asking price for the prolific striker has prompted them to look elsewhere. Tuttomercatoweb now suggests that Arsenal is focusing on Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

Since joining Sporting Lisbon from Coventry City last summer, the 26-year-old Gyokeres has received high praise in Portugal. He scored an impressive 29 goals and provided nine assists in 33 league appearances last season, helping Sporting secure the Primeira Liga title.

Gyokeres has a contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade until 2028, which includes a €100 million release clause. However, Mikel Arteta’s side is unlikely to meet this hefty release clause and will likely negotiate for a lower fee.

The Sweden international is highly regarded for his strength, pace, aerial dominance, and excellent finishing. He also possesses the ability to link up play effectively.

Gyokeres could be a savvy addition for the Gunners, but it remains uncertain whether they can secure his signing in this transfer window.

Arsenal performed excellently in the 2023-24 season but ultimately missed out on the Premier League title by just two points. Adding a top striker like Gyokeres could help them finally end their title drought next season.
