JUST IN✅✅: Fabrizio Romano Provides Disheartening Update on Arsenal’s Advanced Negotiations for £92M Striker Viktor Gyekores
Arsenal’s search for a new number nine continues, with recent discussions focusing on former Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Swedish forward had an outstanding season in Portugal, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists for Ruben Amorim’s side, leading them to a league title.
Gyokeres’ impressive performance has naturally drawn interest from the Premier League, with recent reports suggesting a deal with Arsenal is near. However, new updates indicate that progress has stalled.
Fabrizio Romano, speaking to CaughtOffside, shared insights into Arsenal’s current position on Gyokeres. “In the last 24, 48 hours, there were rumours about the deal being close and very advanced. I saw reports from Portugal suggesting it was almost completed, but I am told this is not true,” Romano stated.
“At the moment, Arsenal are not at an advanced stage in their negotiations for Gyokeres. They contacted the player months ago, between April and May. They are aware of the €100 million release clause, but also the overall cost of the deal in terms of salary and other factors.”
Romano highlighted that Arsenal have not yet decided if Gyokeres is their primary target. “They want to take their time to assess their options. So, currently, the deal for Gyokeres is not imminent or close, but it remains an option. I don’t think Arsenal will spend crazy money for Gyokeres, so it would need a different deal structure or they may explore other opportunities.”
While Gyokeres’ stellar season at Sporting is undeniable, questions remain about his ability to perform in the more challenging Premier League.
The potential €100 million transfer fee, roughly £85 million, is significant for a player with only one remarkable season in Portugal.
This financial consideration, along with uncertainties about Gyokeres’ adaptability to the Premier League, likely contributes to Arsenal’s cautious approach.
Gyokeres’ power, speed, and finishing abilities make him an attractive option for Arsenal, offering skills not currently present in their squad. However, the high release clause and his relatively unproven status on a tougher stage are significant factors that Arsenal must weigh before making a final decision.
