Reiss Nelson, an Arsenal academy graduate, has expressed his desire to explore transfer options this summer, with interest coming from four Premier League clubs.

At 24 years old, Nelson has accumulated 89 appearances for Arsenal since his first-team debut in 2018. He notably scored a crucial goal in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Bournemouth in March 2023, which temporarily sustained Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions. Despite this, Arsenal ended the season five points behind the treble-winning Manchester City.

Earlier in the season, Nelson scored twice in a dominant 5-0 win against Nottingham Forest, performances that earned him a contract extension last July, binding him to the club until the summer of 2027.

This contract includes an option to extend for an additional year, but Nelson is now considering a summer departure and has informed Arsenal of his willingness to engage with other clubs, as reported by The Athletic.

Despite his potential, Nelson had limited involvement in Arsenal’s title pursuit last season, starting just one Premier League match. He acknowledges the necessity of regular playtime to rejuvenate his career.

Arsenal had previously turned down offers for Nelson in January, aiming to break their 20-year Premier League title drought and succeed in the Champions League. However, they appear more amenable to offers this summer, seeking to generate over £20m for the England youth international.

Reportedly, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham have shown interest in acquiring Nelson, who has also had loan stints in Germany and the Netherlands.

Following consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League, Arsenal is eager to support Arteta in the transfer market. The club plans to sign a new striker after Gabriel Jesus’ lackluster season but must look for alternatives after missing out on primary target Benjamin Sesko.

Addressing Arsenal’s transfer strategy earlier this month, Arteta emphasized the need to reassess all aspects of the team and improve existing players to elevate the club’s performance. He stressed the importance of maintaining the club’s identity while striving for improvement, with a strong ambition among players and staff to start winning trophies.
